-characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.

In layman’s terms, holistic living is a philosophy that focuses on health care for the entire body-including the mind and spirit. Now before you start pressing your palms together and saying ? Om? here are tips to introduce into your daily routine:

Tip #1 – Food is not just fuel.

So often hear that you need to fuel your body with fresh food, which is true, but the food is also medicine. Everybody is different, food sensitivities and intolerances? can vary. Instead of reaching for acetaminophen when you get cramps, start a food journal and take into account how you are feeling after you eat certain foods.

Tip #2 – Know when you need to take a break.

Americans typically have a mentality of staying late at work in fear of looking like a “slacker.” Around 134 countries have laws setting hours for the maximum length of the work week; the U.S. does not. Stress is the #1 cause of health problems mentally and physically. Know when your body and mind have had enough and rather than staying late to put you ahead.

Tip #3 – Be Active.

Sitting is the silent killer. Our bodies are not meant to sit hunched over for more than 10 hours a day. The problem is, a majority of us are doing this every day starting in grade school. Take 10 minutes to really stand up, take a short walk and stretch all those muscles you forgot about. Standing desks are also a great way to be on your feet more throughout the day.

Tip #4 -Become more mindful.

How often have you asked someone for a favor only to have them back out last minute? The only thing I wish they could have known is that they did not have to say “yes” in the first place. Make sure you know when you can and cannot take more on. This will not only help others, but it will help you. Being a people pleaser can be exhausting, so make sure you look out for yourself first.

Tip #5 – Scented or Unscented?

When possible opt for the unscented products. Scented products are more usually artificial and cause irritation. They are also slipped into a lot of products you would not even think about. Laundry pods, tissues, and feminine products just to list a few. These all come in direct contact with the body’s largest organ: skin! Swap these out for non-scented so really see the difference.
