CBD What You Need to Know

CBD is undoubtedly a hot topic these days because of its ability to treat a range of conditions from insomnia and anxiety to chronic pain and cancer. You probably have seen CBD products show up in grocery stores, Hallmark stores, even dollar stores!

Celebrities use it, athletes don’t leave the gym without it, seniors swear by it, and even pets have shown its benefits.

So what’s the deal? Is it too good to be true?

What Is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in the cannabis plant. This naturally-occurring compound differs from marijuana because of its phytochemical composition; CBD contains no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound that gets you high. CBD is non-intoxicating, and while it won’t get you high, many users report feeling a sense of calm and relaxation when taking it.

How Much CBD Should I Take?

The recommended dose really depends on a variety of factors, such as:

  • Your body weight
  • The condition you’re treating
  • Your individual body chemistry
  • The concentration of CBD in each pill, capsule, drop, or gummy

A general rule of thumb is, if you are a beginner, to start taking the smallest dose (depending on what form you are using) and then gradually increase it.

For instance, this could mean starting somewhere between 20-40mg a day. If you listen to your body and sense it could benefit from a higher dose, increase the amount by 5mg per week (or until you feel its benefits).

As always, please consult your doctor before using CBD. Working together and discussing how it can benefit your treatment plan and/or enhance your well-being is always a best practice.

What Are The Benefits of CBD?

There are many reported benefits! Studies have demonstrated CBD has helped treat the following conditions, and more:

  • Inflammatory and neuropathic pain
  • Diabetes
  • Nicotine addiction
  • Dementia-related conditions
  • Cancer
  • Anxiety
  • Acne
  • Depression
  • Acute and chronic pain
  • Insomnia

And because CBD comes in a variety of forms (oils, creams, isolates, vapes, gummies), there is truly something for everyone.
